What is noQ?

noQ is a modern word-building game inspired by American Mahjong, played with letter tiles instead of suits and numbers. It offers a fresh take on game night that’s fun, social, and mentally challenging, while providing a backdrop for gathering with friends away from our very plugged-in lives.

How many people can play?

noQ is designed for 3–4 players.

What are the recommended ages for this game?

Recommended for ages 16–116.

How long does a game of noQ typically take?

Each round of noQ will vary in duration, but you can expect approximately 15-20 minutes of gameplay. When 3 people play, there are 3 rounds to a game, and when 4 people play, there are 4 rounds. The winner is determined at the conclusion of these rounds.

Do you have to know how to play American Mahjong to play noQ?

No, you do not. noQ will have a familiar rhythm and flow for an American Mahjong player, but it is a completely original game with its own rules and strategies. You can learn how to play noQ with zero knowledge of Mahjong.

Was noQ designed to replace American Mahjong?

Absolutely not! noQ was created to offer something different and give people another game-night obsession to enjoy around the table.

What kind of tiles are used in noQ?

Large, premium, custom double-layer acrylic tiles (1.30 × 0.98 × 0.51 in) with deep engraving and crisp paint fill. They feel great in the hand and are very satisfying to play with.

What is included in a noQ game purchase?

Included in your purchase are 124 premium tiles (4 to be held as spares), a single die, 4 cheat sheet cards, official Rulebook, noQ Scorepad, a deluxe envelope, and a compact storage/travel case.

Is there a difference between the various noQ sets?

We offer 4 unique color themes, including: Deep Red, Slate Blue, Dusty Pink, and Sage Green. All noQ sets include the same exact materials which are color coordinated to their theme. Half of the alphabet tiles in each set will match the named color, and the other half will be black. The color of the “Q” on the game cover indicates which theme it is (and it is also listed on the product tag). All tiles have black backs and white fronts, regardless of which color theme it is.

Are game mats and Mahjong racks/pushers also included in the noQ purchase?

They are not. While these are nice accessories to have, they are not required for playing noQ. That said, many Mahjong players may already have them, and their use is recommended for the best playing experience. In some product photos, game mats and racks/pushers are shown for demonstration purposes only. If desired, these can be purchased separately from independent sellers.

Why is noQ priced the way it is?

noQ was created as a premium independent game rather than a mass-market one, with pricing that reflects the quality of its components and presentation.

Does noQ support any charitable causes?

Yes. For every noQ game sold, $10 is donated to PAWS Chicago, a local animal welfare organization.

Do you offer gift cards?

Yes. noQ gift cards are available in the amount of one noQ game. The recipient chooses their preferred color theme and redeems the digital gift card at checkout. See the gift card product page for more information. Discount codes do not apply, and physical gift cards are not available.

Do you offer promotions or discount codes?

Any current noQ promotions or special offers will be shared on the website or through other official noQ channels.

How much are your shipping costs?

Shipping is always free within the U.S. lower 48. At this time, noQ does not ship internationally.

What is your return policy?

If you need to make a return, please request it within 14 days of delivery. Once approved, the game must be shipped back within 7 days and arrive complete and in like-new condition.
